Welcome to my website!
My name is Pingfan Hu, a PhD candidate in Systems Engineering at George Washington University, advised by Professor John Helveston. My work focuses on data science, quantitative modeling, and software development in sustainable transportation. I build software and analytical models that integrate UI/UX, web frameworks, and databases, with expertise in , Python, and PostgreSQL. I develop websites and web applications using Quarto and Shiny. I am proficient in both hands-on programming and LLM-assisted development using tools such as ChatGPT and Claude.
Research Focus:
Open-Source Software: I develop open-source tools for survey construction and data science. surveydown is an open-source, feature-packed package for programmable and reproducible surveys, combining a Quarto UI, a Shiny web framework, and a PostgreSQL backend. sdstudio is a companion package as GUI and SQL support for surveydown.
Transportation Research: I study human behavior in sustainable transportation using discrete choice models. My work focuses on smart charging adoption and economy analysis, providing insights to help policymakers and utilities design better systems that benefit both the grid and EV owners.
